An introduction to the erstwhile ruling family belonging to the ancient state of Patan in Rajasthan. Rao Digvijay Singh Patan & family now residing in Jaipur have opened their house "Madhuban" to tourists who would like to enjoy traditional Rajput hospitality.

About 70 miles northeast of Jaipur lies the home of the head of the Tanwar Rajputs. The rulers of Patan belong to the Lunar clan and are descendants of King Parikshit, the grandson of the great Pandava Arjun, renowned in the epic, Mahabharata. Emperor Anangpal II who ruled North India from the throne of Delhi some 900 years ago was ousted by Prithviraj Chauhan. He later established an independent kingdom comprising of some 380 villages as Tanwarawati which is around 3000sq kms in area, with it's capital at Patan.

Lonely planet says Madhuban is heartily recommended if you crave a homely ambience with no hassles whatsoever. The more expensive rooms have fine furnishings and the Royal Suite has a Jacuzzi .There's also an indoor restaurant, or you can eat out in the pleasant garden. For dessert don't forget to try the extremely delicious Maalpuas(sweet chapatis) There is also an internet facility here. The owners do not pay commission and by prior arrangement will collect you from the train station or bus stand.

Dear Madhuban,

On our recent trip to India, the Madhuban was by far the best hotel we stayed at for price, comfort, friendliness, honesty, reliability etc. I have e-mailed the Lonely Planet Guide to say all this and to urge them to give you the highest recommendation.

Thanks to you all,

Richard Hubbard, and the Grice-Hubbard family.

Dear Dicky,

I just want to let you know that we loved staying in your beautiful guest house, the service, the charmy room, the food,in other words.........we loved everything even the fact that your place is a little 'far' from the busy and bustlyng center of Jaipur, it is a very needed oasis after a few hours spent in the colorful ,hectic, crazy center of town, everything was up to our expectations and faithful to the description on the 'lonely planet' guide book, even better, i know you meet a lot of people and probably you do not remember who i am,after all we were there only two nights, but it was nice to shake your hand and finally give a 'face' to the hand that wrote back to me everytime i had a question................and i had many questions, even some you could had ignored , but you took your time to help me anyway. I will suggest your 'home' to anybody who will come to Jaipur and if i will be there again .........i know for sure where to stay! I wish you the best and thank you !

Dear Dicky

Now that we have returned to the UK, we would like to thank you again for all your help in making our stay at Jaipur such a pleasant experience. Of all the guesthouses we stayed at, we are all agreed that Madhuban was the best. The rooms were nice, the garden lovely, and the laid-back atmosphere was most civilised and relaxing. All the staff were most pleasant and helpful, and your dogs are fondly rememberd by my son - especially the dachshund! Please extend our thanks to your reception staff in particular, and for sending my passport on so quickly. I hope we will return to India in the future, and look forward to reacquainting ourselves with your hotel.

Kind regards

Dear Dicky,

There's one month now since we came back from India. Often times we think of you and your wonderful house:the memories we keep from Jaipur are the best of all. I am sending you a photo of the Madhuban.I hope you can open it. I am also sending you by mail two paper copies of that photo. Our stay at the Madubhan is the best of all these Indian memories, because of you, your kindness, your warm reception, the quality of the service and the beauty of our room.We often speak of it. And we hope to see you again one of these days.I hope you are well, you and your family. We are sending you our best greetings. And again many thanks for your warm reception.
